Gay Republicans... Creepy
>
I'm going to do my best to make sure this post doesn't cross the line into the pornographic. But, let me confess that when I was much younger, I sometimes slept around. One time I was in NYC and I met some guy online who was hot to trot and looked awesome. I offered to take him to dinner so we could get to know each other. He said he had no time for that but how about if he came over for a quickie. He really did look great and I was in the mood to not look a gift horse in the mouth.
At the time, I had an apartment in a fancy midtown hotel; he called from the garage and said he had just parked his father's Escalade. I had been staying at the hotel for years-- first as a hotel guest and later as a resident-- and I never used their garage once; the minimum was $50. So he was a big spender. It turns out he was a big spender of his father's money.
And no wonder he didn't want to go out and get to know each other. Vapid, vain, shallow, creepy are all words that pop into my head when I think back to him. Also eager to be physically dominated. Also... an ardent, mouthy Republican with a loud, visceral hatred for poor people. His father, it turned out, was one of the most powerful, high-profile Republicans in New York. I was really torn. He was so good looking when he wasn't talking! I went through with it-- having decided not to use any lube-- and then walked him out to his car and watched him drive off in the biggest SUV I had ever seen. I went upstairs and showered again and felt badly about myself. That was the last time I ever slept with a Republican.
I don't know anything about Rob Portman's son but I do know that Portman is a sniveling worm and should never have been elected to Congress. In the 2010 Democratic primary for the open seat, the brilliant DSCC pushed worthless Establishment ConservaDem Lee Fischer over progressive champion Jennifer Brunner and he won-- only to get creamed by Portman 57-39%. They didn't understand back then-- and don't understand now-- to Howard Dean's and Alan Grayson's warning that "you can't beat a Republican by being a Republican. Of course Ohio voters picked the wormish Portman. Portman made the national news a few years later when he told voters that his son is gay so he's backing marriage equality. He neglected to mention that it was years after his son came out to him that Portman stopped voting against LGBT equality and finally manned up-- a little. He's still against employment equality.
An even more disgusting presence in Ohio Republican politics is corrupt former Attorney General Jim Petro. Before losing the Republican 2006 gubernatorial nomination to sociopath Ken Blackwell, Petro made a name for himself as an anti-Choice fanatic and as player in the Ohio Republican Party Coingate scandal. Somehow Petro managed to avoid prison and he was in the news again this week, bleating about how he's seen the light on his vile homophobia because he has a lesbian daughter. Petro had helped implement plenty of anti-LGBT legislation is his day but now he's backing a ballot initiative to legalize marriage equality.

Ohio’s economic well-being “will depend on its welcoming nature,” Petro said at a news conference with officials from FreedomOhio, the group collecting signatures to put the issue on the Nov. 2014 ballot. “More and more public officials will recognize the need for true equality.”Maybe I should call the father of the kid I schtupped and see if I can get him to change his still virulently homophobic public posturing.
...In an interview with The Dispatch this year, Petro said he had rethought his opposition to gay marriage after his daughter, Corbin, legally married Jessica Clare Gelman last year in Massachusetts. Corbin is chief operating officer of the Massachusetts Department of Medicaid in Boston and Jessica is vice president of the Kraft Sports Group, which owns the New England Patriots.

When I was young, there was no such word as "online".
Just sayin'.
Do you have a biography or book? I've been reading you for years and I'm always fascinated each time you peel back a layer of the onion.
yes, out the son to the Bad Dad. Make him see his ways hurt his family.
