BREAKING! Miami GOP Chairman Asked to Resign Over Domestic Violence Record
>
Last week we gave you another example of how the Republican Party of Florida is rotten to its core as the boss of the Miami GOP and candidate for Congress in FL-25, David Rivera, was caught red-handed lying about the company he keeps. We knew David Rivera was corrupt and sleezy...we just never imagined he beat women-- literally.
It turns out that the Miami Dade County Clerk of Courts website lists David Rivera as a repeat domestic violence offender. I think this is a DWT exclusive right now. I haven't seen it anywhere else online-- except here (click-- and keep in mind that REPVIOL means Repeated Acts of Violence).
Rivera's domestic violence record is disgusting and should be offensive to any woman that a sleeze-ball like this would think he could get away with running for public office-- much less, for Congress-- with this kind of garbage under his belt.
Based on what we know, Tea Party fave, Paul Crespo, and Marili Cancio (Rivera's primary opponents for the GOP nomination), will present documentation of Rivera's domestic violence record tonight at the local GOP meeting and ask for his resignation.
State Rep. David Rivera's campaign for U.S. Congress has taken quite the ass-kicking since he was caught being less than forthright about his friendship with Ariel Pereda, a Miami businessman who facilitates trade with Cuba. Being a hard-line, pro-Cuban embargo advocate since he took public office, looking like a hypocrite wasn't something Rivera expected heading into tonight's monthly meeting and candidates forum of the Republican Party of Miami-Dade. And who knows if Rivera will even show up considering one of his political opponents is promising to expose the former house budget committee chairman in front of local GOP'ers.
I can only imagine Rivera, who bought and shared a house in Tallahassee with then-Speaker Marco Rubio-- a house that has since been foreclosed on for 6 months worth of non-payment of mortgage-- becoming a pariah for the national Republican Party.
Here's the question...if Rivera is forced out as County Chair, as seems likely now, will he end his candidacy for Congress? Even if by some miracle he's not forced out-- and we've all seen the Republicans don't have a problem having wife-beaters in their party-- will the national party force him to end his campaign? You just have to ask yourself these days, what the hell is wrong with the Florida Republican Party?

Nice job Howie.
Yeah, good catch!
"Being a hard-line, pro-Cuban embargo advocate since he took public office, looking like a hypocrite wasn't something Rivera expected..."
Having the embargo in place makes his Cuban trade operation much more lucrative. This is the same reason that the drug war is supported by alcohol and tobacco companies, as well as by drug cartels.
It says order of dismissal. Does that mean the case might have been dropped?
The Court Order of Dismissal means the woman did not show up for the final hearing. That happens many teams out of fear...
What that record does show is that he had a restraining order filed against him...this must have been very serious!
Thanks Howie!
Well Well Well
Don't know where you got your information, but having just attended the Miami-Dade Republican party candidate forum, AT NO TIME did Paul Crespo bring up any issues other than David Rivera's abuses of his position of the Republican Party of Miami-Dade. And the press release we received from Crespo's campaign prior to the event made NO mention of anything other than Rivera's abuses of his party chairmanship. Does DownWithTyranny have some kind of agenda? Let's keep the facts straight!
For anyone suggesting that DWT might have an agenda -- and this is the basis for uncovering the David Rivera domestic violence episodes -- GET REAL, dude! The only one with an agenda is David Rivera himself, and his agenda only includes benefiting himself, and his cronies.
Whoever is complaining about the reporting that Paul Crespo was going to talk about domestic abuse should consider that DWT was repeating the trash from the Miami New Times Riptide blog: http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/2010/07/paul_crespo_is_going_to_put_da.php
Paul Crespo is too classy to cite David Rivera for alleged domestic abuses in his past but Rivera still his legislative aid call West Miami police to harass Crespo about his talk: http://www.elnuevoherald.com/2010/07/24/771265/legisladores-deciden-por-sus-electores.html
This info is definitely a miss by DWT but overall their pretty good.
