People Have The Power-- Patti Smith, Joyce Elliott

>

Patti wrote "People Have the Power" with her husband, Fred "Sonic" Smith in 1988 and released it as the single from Dream of Life. The song has become so iconic for her fans now that it's pretty much a live Patti Smith live anthem now. A few years ago photographer Richard Aaron created a gorgeous photo collage of Patti images and printed 6 on archival paper, signed them, numbered them and gave them to me. I asked Patti to sign them and she wrote out "People Have the Power- Patti Smith" across the bottom of each.

Earlier today we posted an introduction by Diallo Brooks to an outstanding state legislator, Joyce Elliott, the progressive leader of Arkansas' Democrats. Tomorrow Joyce will be a live Blue America guest at Crooks and Liars. I have no idea if she's a fan of Patti's music or not but I do know that the two women are completely in synch with Patti's song, "People Have the Power." It's certainly what Joyce's career embodies, as an educator and as a legislator. Blue America is offering one of these 6 rare signed printed that I referred to above to someone who donates to Joyce's campaign at the Blue America ActBlue page before midnight tomorrow--Tuesday, Pacific Time. (One donor's name will be drawn from a hat to determine the winner, regardless of how much the contribution is.)
