Rand Paul Is In!

>

(We're not not really supporting him, but he's certainly more interesting than GOP corporate shill Trey Grayson)

Rand Paul, son of crazy right-wing obstructionist Ron Paul, has jumped into the Republican primary race for Kentucky's open Senate seat. Mitch McConnell had strong-armed doddering incumbent Jim Bunning into withdrawing and had tried engineering a GOP coronation for Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson. Paul, an outspoken ophthalmologist and anti-tax activist from Bowling Green who has been drafted by grassroots Republicans sick of the tired old GOP establishment calling the shots, had been expected to make the bid. He'll run as an outsider.
"It's about time we have someone who is an outsider and not a career politician in Washington," Paul said in an AP interview. "Nothing ever seems to change, even when we think we vote for change."

...Paul has been sharply critical of both Republicans and Democrats in Congress, saying members of both parties have proven unwilling to do what's necessary to strengthen the country.

"I don't see things in terms of Republican verses Democrat," he said. "I see in terms of issues and whether they're good or bad, and I think that will strike a chord with people."

Paul will seek to overcome Grayson's huge financial advantage and corporate support with immense enthusiasm from the grassroots. He told supporters the twin issues of federal spending and the national debt pushed him to run for office. He's doing a fundraiser in NYC tonight. McConnell is expected to dry up all sources of establishment money and support for him and will make the NRSC's anti-Rubio campaign look like tiddlywinks compared to what they will do to Paul if they feel he's threatening their handpicked candidate.

Poor Rand! Trying to argue ideas in a nation where the level of political discourse is managed through 10 second sound bytes and mainstream media types that toady to their corporate bosses.

Not that I like his ideas, but at least he has some. Unlike all of one party and much of the second.
