Republicans Step To The Brink Of Shutting Down The Government-- But There Was No One As Insane As Newt This Time To Pull The Plug

>

Yesterday and Thursday the Senate "debated" the omnibus appropriations bill the House passed a week ago. Theoretically, with the Republicans in Just Say No mode, the government would have had to shut down at midnight yesterday had not both houses passed continuing resolutions to keep the show going.

The Senate passed it by unanimous consent but there was more of a struggle in the House. They voted at noon on the resolution and it pased 328-50, with 48 Republicans and 2 Democrats voting to shut down the government. If you want to see a list of the most radical right extremists in government, just look at who voted to pull the plug-- many of the regular suspects who hate America most: Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Missouri gubernatorial candidate Roy Blunt (R-MO), KKK Dragon Paul Broun (R-GA), Oklahoma gubernatorial candidate crazy Mary Fallin (R-OK), Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Scott Garrett (R-NJ), Steve King (R-IA), Jerry "still not in prison" Lewis (R-CA), Dan Lungren (R-CA), Patrick McHenry (R-NC), Ron Paul (R-TX), of course, Pete Sessions (R-TX), John Shadegg (R-AZ), Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA, Congress' stupidest person... ever) and both wingnuts running for the Kansas Senate seat, Jerry Moran and Todd Tiahrt.

I might add that previous to the actual vote, the House Republicans did their ritual motion to recommit (kill) and all 152 who bothered voting, went down that dark road. They were joined by 8 Democrats: Jason Altmire (Blue Dog-PA), Travis Childers (Blue Dog-MS), Joe Donnelly (Blue Dog-IN), Brad Ellsworth (Blue Dog-IN), Gabby Giffords (Blue Dog-AZ), Walt Minnick (Blue Dog-ID), Harry Mitchell (AZ), and Glenn Nye (Blue Dog-VA).

Meanwhile-- not even counting the obstructionist crap from McCain, Ensign and Hutchison on Wednesday-- all defeated-- the Senate had to contend with 9 amendments in two days proposed by the two anti-families fanatics from Oklahoma-- 4 from Coburn and one from Inhofe-- as well as from 4 others from the Senate's dimmest lights: Kyl, Thune, Murkowski and Wicker. All 9 obstructionist amendments were defeated.

Now I don't know if Tom Coburn actually puts on a sheet and runs around burning crosses or not-- but I certainly know where his sympathies lie. The most vile of all the amendments was S. Amdt, 608 (with one co-sponsor, another "respectable" racist, John McCain, the one who did his best to keep Martin Luther King's birth from becoming a national holiday). Coburn's amendment insisted that funding for the Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crime Act from come funds already provided for the Weed and Seed Program. Obviously both racist senators opposed the Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crime Act but this distasteful prank was actually supported by the whole KKK coalition in the Senate (36 Republicans) plus one misguided Democrat who doesn't know what she's doing, twitter-fiend, Claire McCaskill. Aside from all the rest of the Democrats, the amendment was also opposed by Republicans Judd Gregg (NH), Lisa Murkowski (AK), and Olympia Snowe (ME). Apparently the reality of a primary from the far right has already scared Snarlin' Arlen Specter (PA) enough so that he joined the likes of David Diapers Vitter, Jim DeMint and Richard Burr in voting for this disgraceful waste of Senate time.

Please don't call other commenters "retards." It's obvious enough to anyone reading her comments that her brain is fried on the Limbaugh/Coulter axis. I only leave contributions like that up on the site as an amusement.

Obama is a black Bush. Other than skin color...they both love to increase government, back track on campaign promises, increase spending, suspend human rights, hire wolves to watch the hen house and both are/were completely unqualified for the job they got elected to.

Time to read up on why there is a 2nd amendment...

(and fyi...congress is 10x worse than the executive branch)

Remember where the Fed gets its money... the states. All of this worries me, anyone with a brain cell understands at any moment to include strong economic times, democracy hangs on by a thread. Every country fails at sometime or another, and evey civilization has civil war(s) (plural). It would be very dumb for us, US citizens, to ever think we are immune. I understand that their is a larger populace in states like CA and NY, but they are in a weak position with deep deficits. States like TX, that are in GRAND condition compared to CA and NY do have an advantage to flex their muscle if they so choose. If the fed were to make a mistake and push back, that can potentially lead to deep anger with like minded states, and be in itself the motivation that leads a sound separatist movement. The US being in a compromised positon, we already see countries like Russia and China flexing, as can a very strong state in the union. I would advise the Fed govt. to tread wisely, because in my opinion, a state like TX can survive on its own and co-exist with the US as a neighbor in harmony, but if TX goes, it will take about 20 states with her. Twenty states that are not in bad shape, compared to CA and NY, this would bankrupt the US, as she relies on such states tax revenues. Remember, the US is not on the gold standard, and such an event would lower the US's AAA rating with the world i.e. all countries pulling all their money out over night. Also please understand, because of the difference in political ideology, most of the U.S. nuclear innovations are in republican states because liberal states said no to nukes... and, please correct me if my figure is wrong, but last I checked, 60 percent of the volunteer military in the US are from southern states... that weird southern pride thing leads me to believe that they will not "turn" on their home states, and a huge number of military bases, weapons cache, etc are housed in southern states, oh yea, Fort Knox is in KY too. Last but not least, where are the majority of the US's oil refined... southern states, and where is the US's national oil reserve...southern states. Please don't blast me, and I am sure I misspelled a word or two, I am just looking at this situation objectively, and the way I see it, because of political ideology, the southern states are not in the weak position it was in when it engaged in the civil war, and if the crapp hit the fan, I doubt they will just hand everything I just mentioned over to the US without HUGE concessions. Seeing the US would be broke, the UN may have to step in.

"....But There Was No One As Insane As Newt Gingrich..."

Don't fret - the GOP has plenty of nuts growing down on the farm here in AZ.

In a couple of years, maybe next year, some will be ready to try and move up to the big leagues, especially if Shadegg and/or McCain retires or Flake decides to run for governor (that's been rumored for a while, but nothing official has been announced).
