How Many Seats Will Mindless Obstructionism Cost The Republican Party?

>

Americans may be evenly divided between reactionaries and progressives, in terms of self-identification but they overwhelmingly favor progressive solutions to the problems the country faces.
• By a margin of almost nine to one, Americans agree that “government investments in education, infrastructure, and science are necessary to ensure America’s long-term economic growth,” (79 percent agree, 12 percent neutral, 9 percent disagree).

• More than three in four Americans (76 percent) also agree with the president’s argument that “America’s economic future requires a transformation away from oil, gas, and coal to renewable energy sources such as wind and solar.”

• Nearly three in four Americans believe that “government regulations are necessary to keep businesses in check and protect workers and consumers,” (73 percent agree, 15 percent neutral, 12 percent disagree).

• Nearly two in three Americans (65 percent) agree that “the federal government should guarantee affordable health coverage for every American.”

But while the Grand Obstructionist Party is trying to figure out who will lead them into ultimate irrelevance in the 2010 and 2012 reduxes of 1934 and 1936, their strategy has been eloquently explained by a junior Republican leader, North Carolina congressional closet queen Patrick McHenry. Their biggest name (sorry Lindsey) senatorial closet queen can spin it any way he likes for the media-- while obstructing every single thing the president does to try to rescue the country from a Depression caused by 8 years of Republican misrule-- but it is McHenry who really laid it all out bare for everyone to see.
McHenry's words are clear. He will not help rebuild the economy, create jobs or make America more secure if it means working with the Democrats. This, he believes, will lead to the unthinkable-- Congress remaining in the hands of the Democrats another two years and possibly a second-term for President Obama.

With his vote against the president's economic recovery package, McHenry has thwarted efforts that could create or save 105,000 jobs in North Carolina, help responsible homeowners stay in their homes, cut taxes for hardworking Americans and put North Carolinians back to work.

"Rep. McHenry's brazen disregard for the well-being of hardworking North Carolinians is stunning," said Jessica Santillo, Southern Regional press secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

We agree. McHenry's words and actions in Washington show he cares little about the people of Catawba County and the 10th District. It seems to us his only concern is maintaining his seat in Congress and discrediting the Democrats.

McHenry-- unlike McConnell-- should at least be commended for his straight talk. And he does, at least when he says this kind of stuff, speak for the entire right wing of the Inside-the-Beltway GOP Establishment. So why do I think that the 2010 and 2012 elections will be more like the 1934 and 1936 elections than like the 1998 and 2000 elections? (And keep in mind, after the 1936 first re-election of FDR, the obstructionist Republicans-- who were playing by the exact same playbook Little Patty McHenry is singing from-- were left with 16 senators and 88 House members.)
Polls show that a majority of voters like Obama’s attempts to establish bipartisan cooperation and say McConnell’s Republicans are playing politics. In a recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey, 56 percent said Republicans were opposing Obama to gain political advantage; just 30 percent thought they were standing on principle.

McConnell’s stated willingness to work with Obama so far hasn’t matched his actions. He voted against the president on the $787 billion economic-stimulus plan, opposed an expansion of a children’s health-care program and refused to support Obama’s nominees for Treasury secretary and attorney general.

Well at least their party's chairman is yappin' his head off and proving to the world that... he really wants to look cool and pro-choice-ish. Not workin' for him; not even a little. Toast? Toast crumbs? [UPDATE: Changed his mind, for some reason, on that pro-choice thing this morning.]

They'll lose none, of course, not if they have their way. Because with the press in their pockets, and enough Democrats to cut the Achilles tendon on Obama's plans, they'll be able to intone "We told you the Dems didn't have it to solve matters" in 2010, and stage a comeback.

Blustering won't prevent this happening. In fact, I'm not sure what will, given the high level of idiocy and corruption in the Democratic Party.

All opposition to Obama so far is:
1. He's going too fast
2. He's not going fast enough
3. He should fix the economy and not worry about health care yet
4. He's always on TV talking

These are stupid and foolish arguments, and clearly show that these people do not get what the President is doing.

1. This crisis is complex, and the simpletons simply cannot comprehend the complexity and why Obama is reacting the way he is.
2. and 3. Obama must act fast because the crisis is plummeting and it will not wait at our convenience. Health care is interconnected with the economic crisis. Here's a simple analogy for all of the Republicans who jump to conclusions:
If I am uninsured and my only income is 1000.00 dollars per month from Social security or unemployment, and 800 dollars of that 1000 dollars goes to medical expenses, that leaves me 200 dollars per month to have for food, gas, rent, expenses, etc. - in this embellished scenario, although not unrealistic, one can easily see how current health care costs could severely impact economic circumstances, and seriously becomes a priority all of the sudden. HENCE THE NEED FOR SIMULTANEOUS REFORM!!!!
4. He is always on TV because of the new transparent government, unlike the deals done behind closed doors from past politics.

If I EVER see any acknowledgement to these issues ever again - then it will be clear to me and others that:
a) the person doesn't get it, and will likely never get it
b) the person making the critique knows very little of politics and is a voice that is better left unheard
c) is simply someone who cannot understand complex issues, and only views the world in black and white for their convenience sake
d) really needs to SHUT UP and SIT BACK and be PATIENT, like the rest of the millions of Americans who have been waiting for hundreds of years to have a self-sufficient, self-sustaining, civilized country to live in where one can practice their rights to Freedom and Equality with an Equal Opportunity for upward social mobility in a free market society.

Culture changes, it is never static, it changes with contemporary needs - and it is high time government makes these changes in order to meet the demands of long-unheard voices of millions and millions of Americans.

By the time it matters, Murkins will reliably have forgotten EVERYTHING that happened in this period, except that it is all Obama's fault.

That's the job of the SCUM, and they're still fairly skilled at it. Certainly, they'll never go out of their ways to REMIND folks of the uncomfortable facts...it's not their job--oh, i know, the myth and all. But that was before media consolidation.

The Republicans will lose several seats in congress/2010. The economy is coming out of the deep recession, being led by the market. The demographics of the country is changing as illustrated in the last election. Black's, Latinos, swing voters(Reagan cross over voters)and the youth of the nation will no longer vote for the"Great Obstructionist Party". With a platform of de-regulation, tax cuts for the wealthy and a party that wants to mix religious ideology with politics. They will go the way of the Whigs. The rants and raves of the Limbaugh's and Hannity's of purging the party of moderates and rino's will speed the downard spiral of political influence. The real kicker is yet to come, the reintroduction of the McCain-Kennedy Comprehensive Immigration Bill. It will give 13 to 30 million illegals voting rights with most being signed up as Democrats. The radical Latino groups are in preparation for this now. Republicans will continue to dwindle in numbers.
