Where's Howie? Apparently out of computer range for the moment

>

by Ken

In case it hasn't been obvious over the weekend, Howie has slipped away, but just for a week. He's rented a house, with some old friends, in San Miguel de Allende in central Mexico -- if you look closely, you can see it there NW of Queretaro and ESE of Leon. (You should be able to enlarge the map by clicking.)

"One of the reasons I picked the house that I chose-- which is gorgeous-- is because it 'has' WiFi," he wrote when he told me about the planned trip. "Turns out that wasn't true and it doesn't." Ah, Republican-style reality, where you can say anything you want if it gives the sayer and sayee pleasure. The facts don't seem to come into it, until you try to log onto the Internet with nonexistent WiFi.

So he took a computer, but didn't really know when he left whether he would be able to blog. Apparently not. I assume we'll get a report when he gets back.

Ken,

I have been pretty close to where he is. Its pretty, and you don't have all the yentas that you have in other parts of Mexico.

Years ago in the early 80s my late husband and I went to the Yucatan. Back then Cancun was ok. We hopped on a bus from Cancun to Toulum (ruins) It was a typical Mexican bus...people and chickens. The bus goes down the coast which back then was basically nothing from Cancun to Toulum Now its called the Mexican Riviera. Anyway when we got to Toulum, we got off on a dirt road and made our way into Toulum Toulum is actually on the water and its spectacular..Fast forward to five years ago. We go back this time with our then 15 year. We fly into Cancun and leave and drive across the Yucatan.and not on the highway to Merida which is great old city.We flew to Mexico city.
Then we flew back to Cancun as we had a time share and we were taking our daughter to Toulum Boy oh boy had Cancun changed..My daughters first reaction to Cancun?
Get me out of here...
When we drove down that road to Toulumit was filled with fancy hotels.and Toulum???
Well thank god the ruins are the same ...But when we bought our tickets to go into Toulum, the first thing we saw was a subway franchise...

Hasta la Pasta Howie!

My mom tells me that wifi is a term used on voyeurweb in Mexico, I didn't ask any more.

OK Keni, let's rock.
How about some long hair music from people who are STILL alive (other than Zappa) and would appreciate some caption contests?

Also did I miss the Adam Fox depiction of John McCain and Sarah Palin's farewell kiss?

Have a great week all.
