DEMOCRATS PASS UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION AGAIN-- THIS TIME WITH VETO-PROOF MAJORITY WHILE DAVID DREIER WIMPERS

>

Late yesterday a substantial bipartisan majority in the House passed the Emergency Extended Unemployment Compensation Act of 2008 (H R 5749), 279-144. With Bush, whose policies have caused the economic dislocations leading to the worst unemployment debacle in generations, demanding that his rubber stamp Republican zombies vote no, the House fell 3 votes short of a veto-proof majority. Today the Democrats were able to persuade Fossella, who realized he will soon be unemployed himself, as well as Peter King and Ralph Regula, to cross the aisle and vote yes. The bill passed 274 to 137, 49 Republicans joining all the Democrats. Speaker Pelosi's office has more on today's action.
The legislation will immediately provide up to 13 weeks of extended unemployment benefits in every state to workers exhausting the 26 weeks of regular unemployment benefits, providing much-needed relief to 3.8 million unemployed workers to assist them with rapidly rising gas and food costs, while they continue to struggle to find work in the slowing economy.

Whether or not unemployed workers get an extension will now depend on Senate Republicans. Moderates like Olympia Snowe will work with the Democrats to pass this bill, while the radicals like McConnell, Inhofe and Cornyn are vowing to use parliamentary procedures to kill the bill. Most Republicans are saying, off the record, that they will take their lead on this from the party's new titular head, John McCain. If McCain opposes extending unemployment insurance, millions of American families will be in grave financial jeopardy.

Take a look at this video of David Dreier trying to make excuses for why extremist Republicans like himself voted no and then how Charlie Rangel eviscerates him:

tHE BILL SHOULD PASS BECAUSE MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE UNEMPLOYED ARE UNEMPLOYED NOT BECAUSE OF ANYTHING THAT THEY DID. COMPANIES ARE CLOSING, CUTTING BACK, AND WE DO HAVE TO LIVE, EAT AND PAY BILLS. WE ALL WANT TO WORK. BUT IF WE CANNOT GET EXTENSION ON UNEMPLOYMENT WE WILL BE LIVING ON THE STREETS. WITH PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN RURAL AREAS IT TAKE MOST OF OUR UNEMPLOYMENT MONEY FOR GAS TO GO TO JOB TO BE TOLD NOT HIRING. WE ARE NOT LAZY PEOPLE, BUT PEOPLE WHO WANT TO WORK. UNEMPLOYMENT IN MY STATE IS HIGH, EVEN THE TEMP AGENCY IS HAVING A HARD TIME FINDING PLACING FOR PEOPLE TO WORK. I HAVE SIGN UP WITH FIVE TEMP AGENCY AND NO CALLS. IF WE WANT THE ECONOMY TO GET BACK ON TRACK, DENINING EXTENSION FOR UNEMPLOYMENT WILL NOT DO IT.

In a CNN report covering the latest house vote on emergency unemployment insurance extensions a White House spokesman, Tony Fratto, was quoted as saying "With scarce federal dollars, it's not fiscally responsible to extend benefits in states with very low unemployment rates."

Why do we have scarce federal dollars ? Oh that's right, because we are spending 12 billion dollars a month to wage Bush's idiotic war !

Talk about fiscally irresponsible !!

And the a**hole in the white house is threatening to veto a bill that will only cost around 11 billion dollars over the next 10 years.

There he is, Tony Fratto, c**ksucker of the week !

I am getting up there in age. On top of that, I live in FL. The housing crisis is wicked here.

I recently retrained as a Medical Assistant. I have heavy experience in other areas.

Long story short, I have used up my Unemployment Benefits attending school.

Without benefits, my credit is ruined again. Price of gas is over four dollars here.

It had better pass. David Drier, your Karma is going to be wicked. Karma,David......it's every where you go.

Here is another c**ksucker of the week.

During the latest vote in the house over an emergency unemployment extension Illinois Representative Jerry Weller whined that H.R. 5749 violated the PAYGO provisions of the Congressional Budget Act.

And yet, not one word on how they intend to pay back one penny of the more than 600 Billion dollars Bush will be spending on his personal war !

What a c*nt !!

Well I think we should be able to get the unemployment extension. How they base our pay on the last 3 quarters , what about all the rest of the years we have worked.
I got fired from a job that I was earning $18.00 a hour and for no reason at all. I kept looking for a explanation and all I got was that the state of Texas is a right to work stet e and they can fire you for wearing the wrong color of blue shirt. Now I am 50 years old out of a job for 7 months and 2 weeks of unemployment left.
The sad thing is that we have always lived from pay check to pay check, and I am scared to death.
My son served two tours in Iraq and he lives with me and barley got a job after being back 2 years.
I don't understand why they are worried about Iraq, before they take care of there own.

It was bad enough here in Northern California before all of the fires.
Now the situation is desperate. Jobs are very scarce.
We need this passed now.

Is there any news on it?

We really need the extension. I have tried to look for work. I get so tired looking at the computer day after day, sending out resumes.

Not even the temp agencies have any assignments. I think the extension should be for 20 months. The economy is bad. Gas prices are ridiculous and food prices are going up. We can't eat without money. Hello!! I would like to move out of my parent's house soon, but here I am in my forties living at home.

I have worked all my life since I was 14 and am now 57. I've been out of work since March. My unemployment will run out soon. I have applied for countless jobs online since then and I don't even get a response after submitting my resume. I've been a legal secretary for the last 21 years. I now notice that the law firms here in Chicago and probably elsewhere are hiring secretaries for the same position that I had and they are paying 15,000-20,000 less per year. I went on an interview and passed the testing and was called back for a second interview. They gave me the impression that they would hire me and I have not heard anything. Its been 6 weeks. I'm sure age and salary have something to do with it. I'm ready to go back to waitressing.
