ALMOST EVERYONE OPPOSES TORTURE-- SHAME MOST OF THE ONES WHO LIKE IT ARE IN GOVERNMENT

>

Betrayed by Feinstein and Schumer in the Senate (re: Mukasey vs the Constitution) and the Insiders' Club in the person of the always predictable Steny Hoyer in the House (re: impeachment of Cheney), where can someone serious about rule of law turn? Well, there's always Keith Olbermann. Always. Really. This is certainly one of the best yet-- and it's an indictment of the Pelosis and Emanuels and Hoyers as much as it is an indictment of Bush and the Republicans-- even if he barely mentions them. "The presidency of George W. Bush," he starts, "has now devolved into a criminal conspiracy to cover the ass of George W. Bush."

Whatever the rubber stamp Republican senators-- not one stood up to Bush, not even the power-mad, fake anti-torture McCain-- may have had in mind when they voted to confirm Michael Mukasey, their votes are no worse than those of Schumer and Feinstein who allowed this heinous vote to go forward. CNN reported today that the overwhelming majority of the American people disagree with Schumer, Feinstein, Bush, Lieberman and the GOP. They find torture abhorrent and they-- we-- agree that waterboarding is indeed torture. 29% agree with Bush and Mukasey.

Meanwhile, although neither the American public nor, particularly, American troops (not even the pack of shameless cowards and order-takers in Bush's Pentagon) would agree, Condi's senior State Department legal adviser told the Guardian that "provided there are limits, its OK to torture U.S. troops."
