IF THE CALIFORNIA DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY WAS TODAY, THERE IS NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER WHO I WOULD VOTE FOR
>
Chris Dodd with grateful Democratic voter
Chris Dodd has always been viewed as a responsible, adult, establishment figure in American politics. When he visited us at Firedoglake last May I was mighty impressed with his answers to the community's questions on a wide range of issues. Since the 2008 presidential campaign began he has been far more impressive figure than the media-ordained "front-runners"-- not in a charisma way or a fundraising way or a strategy way, but in terms of his policy proposals and his actions in Congress. Today he did it again by saying "no more." No more? No more what? "The Military Commissions Act. Warrantless wiretapping. Shredding of Habeas Corpus. Torture. Extraordinary Rendition. Secret Prisons." You saw his statement today right after Rockefeller and the Bush Regime came to a settlement (based largely on the bribes AT&T and Verizon pay senators on both sides of the aisle). Since then he's decided to place a hold on the legislation, in effect, stopping it in its tracks.
If the primary was today, it would be a slam dunk for Dodd-- at least for this voter.
UPDATE: THIS IS WHY I ALWAYS THOUGHT REID WAS A BAD CHOICE FOR MAJORITY LEADER
I know it sounds preposterous but it sure looks like Reid is in cahoots with the Bush Regime on FISA now. Enough of his Insider buddies are! But it's only Reid who can brush aside a senator's hold on a bill. He certainly never does it when a Republican puts a hold on a bill. But he just said he would disregard Dodd's hold!

DWT, It would be a slam dunk for me too...Dodd has shown the leadership that is desperately needed and people are craving. I got an email from the campaign about the decision to place the hold and I yelled out loud!
I'll be sending him some money later today. We need to see more of this.
Damn right!
Long live Senator Dodd! A Democrat with a spine. Who'd a thunk it?
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid could learn something from . . . never mind.
