NY TIMES PRE-OBITUARY FOR PETE "SNEAKY PETE" DOMENICI

>

Today's NY Times romanticizes the significance of a grubby and increasingly senile New Mexico political hack recently caught trying to bully U.S. Attorney David Iglesias, pulling strings to get him fired, and then blatantly lying about the whole sordid episode. The hack is Senator Pete "Sneaky Pete" Domenici, a 75 year old relic who, until his recent run-in with the law, was best known for blithely walking down the halls of Congress in his underwear. Oh, and for his extreme right wing voting record, one of the absolute worst in the U.S. Senate, crazier than Ted Stevens' but not quite as fringe as John Sununu's.

Carl Hulse's story is apologetic, maudlin and sappy and instead of painting "Sneaky Pete" as the criminal he is, attempts to earn him some cheap sympathy. To me it looks extremely like the Insiders circling the wagons for one of their own. The guy should spend the rest of his miserable life in a prison cell, not basking in his faded glory misrepresenting the people of New Mexico.
