THESE GIRLS SURE DO CHANGE THEIR MINDS-- NOW THEY'RE FOR THE NONBINDING RESOLUTION (AGAIN)-- UNLESS THEY'RE NOT (AGAIN)

>

The seven confused and conflicted-- and mostly deathly scared-- dwarves Republican senators who helped Mitch "My Bitch" McConnell carry out Cheney's orders to prevent the Warner-Levin nonbinding resolution against escalation in Iraq from being debated, have changed there minds... again... at least according to today's Washington Post.

As of late last night the Post was reporting that Senate Republicans who earlier this week helped block deliberations on a resolution opposing the Bush Regime's new troop deployments in Iraq changed course yesterday and vowed to use every tactic at their disposal to ensure a full and open debate." Every tactic no less! Yep, after going along with Cheney and Mitch "My Bitch" and Trent Lott on a filibuster, now they've sent a letter around claiming that they'll attach the very same measure to every piece of legislation sent to the floor. Suddenly the rohypnol or ketamine Cheney must have slipped them has worn off and they've come to their senses and started calling Bush's war the "most pressing issue of our time." I wonder what they'll be saying at noon. This is so exciting!

Many think that John Warner and Colin Powell were able to get General Pace to go public with a statement that completely undercuts the Lieberman/McCain/Cheney bullshit about hurting troop morale by debating ending the war.
A top Pentagon leader weighed in yesterday on the war debate and appeared to undercut the argument advanced by the White House and many GOP lawmakers that a congressional debate challenging the Bush plan would hurt troop morale.

"There's no doubt in my mind that the dialogue here in Washington strengthens our democracy. Period," Marine Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, testified before the House Armed Services Committee. He added that potential enemies may take some comfort from the rancor but said they "don't have a clue how democracy works."

Bush reportedly hit the ceiling when McCain called the White House to complain. One White House aide, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "I hope he had a nice career; it's over."

The Republicans who signed the letter vowing to fight for the resolution included 5 who backed the filibuster-- Warner himself, Chuck Hagel, Olympia Snowe, Gordon Smith (who is rumored to have wet his panties both when he voted no and when he signed the letter), and George Voinovich-- plus the 2 who voted with the Democrats, Norm Coleman and Susan Collins.

Meanwhile, led by proto-war supporters Steny Hoyer and Rahm Emanuel, the non-confrontationalist Democrats in the House-- the ones who learned nothing from Levin's, Biden's and Reid's experience of dealing with the treacherous Republicans-- are going to offer the same kind of nonbinding, symbolic bullshit resolution instead of one of the strong ones that would start the process of ending the war. The hope is to attract bipartisan support, although probably the most they'll manage is a couple dozen frightened Republicans who hope to show voters back home they oppose the war without voting for anything that will actually stop it.

God, I hope this means that the house of cards is tumbling. At this juncture, these military honchos owe it to the American people to sacrifice their careers if need be to stop these madmen. If sacrificing my career, such as it is would save this country from George Bush, I would sacrifice it tomorrow. I ask no less of them and those like them!
