THE IRRELEVANCE OF LIEBERMAN AND McCAIN-- JUST FOR SETTING POLICY; THEY'RE RELEVANT ON MEET THE PRESS AND THE DAILY SHOW

MEET THE PRESS AND THE DAILY SHOW'>MEET THE PRESS AND THE DAILY SHOW'>MEET THE PRESS AND THE DAILY SHOW'>MEET THE PRESS AND THE DAILY SHOW'>>MEET THE PRESS AND THE DAILY SHOW'>

While Lieberman makes pointless and toothless threats to get revenge on Democrats by jumping ship and officially becoming a Republican-- anyone know the rules for a recall in Connecticut?-- serious senators are getting down to work. In a move sure to disconcert Lieberman and his allies in the Bush Regime, Patrick Leahy is planning out strategy for restoring habeas corpus. "A spokeswoman for Leahy told the newspaper the bill would be intended to repeal portions of the law that prevent some detainees from pursuing federal court challenges to the government's authority to hold them indefinitely."

And while Lieberman happily wagged McCain's tail on Meet the Press this morning, as the two doddering fools called for sending more troops into the midst of the Iraqi Civil War-- something opposed by over 90% of Americans-- serious Democratic senators are discussing how to allow Bush a face saving exit from Iraq via the Baker Iraq Study Group's recommendations. TV talk shows may be interested in what irrelevant old showboats like Lieberman and McCain think about these issues, but when decisions are being made and strategy is being set, neither of these guys-- hated inside their own respective caucuses for their it's-all-about-me attitudes-- has a place at the table.

I THINK YOU KNOW ALL ABOUT LIEBERWHORE ALREADY. ARE YOU WONDERING WHO HIS TRUTH-CHALLENGED FRIEND McCAIN IS? I MEAN REALLY IS?

Oliver Willis has the real McCain story today, not the straight-from-his-p.r.-department version. Short take: "John McCain is a right-wing ideologue who has a narcissistic love for being in the media." Good summation but Oliver's whole story is well worth the read, especially since the Repugs plan to put this fake moderate up for president in 2 years.
