Last night the greatest band in the world got an award from ASCAP. That's not the end of the story. Actually Green Day was given an award for their incredible song, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," which won song of the year at ASCAP's annual shindig at L.A.'s Beverly Hilton Hotel. ASCAP's been around since 1914 but they're keepin' up with the times; songwriter of the year was 50 Cent!
Green Day was also given ASCAP's Creative Voice Award "for advocating change, questioning the status quo and supporting the truest of ideals." They sure do that! In fact Billie started going on about how the best advice he could give is to play music with your pals. Then he asked, rhetorically, "Is this where I'm supposed to say 'Fuck George W. Bush?" The ballroom-- which wasn't filled with punk rockers-- burst into cheering and applause. When the rowdy songwriters and industry types quieted down a bit Billie answered his own question. "You know what? He's done a great job of fucking himself."

American Idiot is one of the top 5 records on my list...these guys really got me through some dark days, particularly after the 2004 sham election. They were at the start of what has since become the trend to speak the truth about the Bushco Crime Family. Really, really great album, from start to finish.

Yes, Green Day is the best band that has ever exsited. I am a republican (mostly because I am a christian), but I do think a lot of the things president Bush has made some IDIOT desisions. But that dosen't deny the fact Green Day is talent, truth, and really good musicians.

A blatant political message is not something, in my opinion, that should invade the music industry.
Take System of a Down... pre-Mezmerize... had a unique approach to making a message.
Green Day needs to take a message: music can be about political agendas, it often is, but being so blatant as Wake Me Up When September Ends, American Idiot, etc. is insulting, ridiculous and shows tremendous lack of talent.

J'ai rarement pu assister à un show avec un entertaineur pareil. Honnêtement, Billie Joe a vraiment l'habileté de captiver la foule du début jusqu'à la fin. Le timing d'American Idiot était parfait! On peut sentir que chaque chanson de cet album est le fruit d'un travail fantastique. Si Jamais Green Day refait une tournée pour American Idiot ou pour son prochain album, j'espère vraiment qu'ils passeront à Québec

yes, i agree American Idiot is an amazing album both musically and lyrically...one of my all-time favourites.
I also have to say that if we want to effect change in any circumstance, particularly in the political arena, each of us needs to be an instrument of that change (personally, i prefer bass...haha, sorry...bad pun). However, in all seriousness, we can sit here all day and night and throw blame around, but honestly, that accomplishes little. We all have a voice and a brain, so why not use them positively? Write, call, visit the office of, your state reps, senators, etc and tell them what you think needs to be done. (respectfully of course, no one likes stones thrown through their windows, if you know what i mean) If enough people with enough persistence stand together, I believe change can be effected. Even if present leadership is lacking, we have several historical examples of how to make our voices heard: Mahatma Gandhi, the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela, and countless others.

Ok, I'm sorry, i don't mean to preach at all...but if we want to see changes in this world before we annihilate each other, we can't sit around screaming at each other and then wait for someone else to make everything better.

At first, I hated Green Day and their three, four or five chord songs. But after "Holiday" and "Good Riddance", I completely changed my mind. I saw the musical talent and the messages and now they are one of my favorite bands.
