Bye-bye, Porter Goss! As Bob and Ray would have said, write if you get work

>

Do you suppose our boy Gannon-Guckert (see below) has the goods on ol' Porter Goss? That's my contribution to what I assume will be a round of wild speculation about our unlamented now-ex-CIA director's sudden departure.

Not that I imagine our Porter has been doing much of anything in the job, or at least anything useful. But why is he suddenly more incompetent for the job today than he's been the whole rest of the time since he was nominated by Chimpy the Prez? Is there another shoe about to drop in the form of some nasty investigation or indictment?

Glad you asked, Ken. Since Chimpy isn't exactly known to have ever fired anyone for
being incompetent or corrupt-- and Lord knows the opportunity has presented itself often enough-- it must be because ole Porter was caught cavorting with the same Republican defense contractor-hired hookers that Cunningham and Lewis were caught with. As a friend of mine mentioned earlier, "We may not know for sure yet why Goss pulled the plug but the CIA Director doesn't march over to the White House and resign, effective immediately, unless something very big is up."

Some right wing kooks are even speculating-- wildly? hopefully? that he wants to go back to Florida to challenge Katherine Harris in the GOP senatorial primary. Meanwhile CNN and Fox and the rest of the highly diverse corporate media are doing their best to keep the focus on Patrick Kennedy's traffic infractions.

Hey, Glenn, thanks for the Bob and Ray gloss. All these years I've been blithely attributing "Write if you get work" to Bob and Ray, not remembering at all that it's actually a Bob-ism. Well, "Hang by your thumbs" sure as shootin' works here! And I'm sure you're right that our one and only AG, Al "The Torture Guy" Gonzales, would be quick to give HIS blessing.

It's hard to believe that ol' Porter was shitcanned for politicizing the CIA, or on account of mass resignations from or demoralization within the agency, since this appears to be exactly the way His Imperial Majesty Dickie has believed our "intelligence" apparatus should be run since he seized the powers of the chief executive.

So that does seem to leave the hookers, doesn't it? Perhaps we finally have one answer to the question, "What do you have to do to get fired in this administration?"

I have to give Rachel Maddow credit once again for being right on the story, in this case the emergence of a hooker scandal, which she pointed out we haven't had since . . . well, since Gannon-Guckert! Aren't hooker scandals what makes America great?

With regard to Howie's post, I'm relieved that it wasn't my imagination that summary obliteration of a CIA director was an astonishing event, despite the lovey-dovey atmosphere in which it was announced. (The only thing missing was Chimpy telling ol' Porter he'd done a heckuva job.)

I can certainly confirm Howie's observation about cable "news" being on top of the story. As luck would have it, I was facing 15 minutes face to face with CNN at the gym, and thought, Aha! now I'll find out what this story is REALLY about. But in those 15 minutes, excepting commercials, all I heard about was Patrick Kennedy.
