[7/15/2011] Preview: Do we need a reason to listen to the radiant Andante sostenuto of Brahms's First Symphony? (continued)
>
We're going to hear two recorded performances by the Vienna Philharmonic, and again there doesn't have to be any particular reason why we should be hearing these particular performances, but there is one, which again will become clear tomorrow night.
BRAHMS: Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68:
ii. Andante sostenuto
Vienna Philharmonic, Sir John Barbirolli, cond. EMI, recorded 1967
Vienna Philharmonic, Leonard Bernstein, cond. DG, recorded live, Oct. 12, 1981
IN TOMORROW NIGHT'S PREVIEW, EVERYTHING BECOMES CLEAR
[Sunday's post is devoted to Mahler's Sixth Symphony.]
