Tale Of Two Matts-- And The Sex Thing In Politics

>

What could I possibly have to say about Matt Lauer? I'm not sure if I ever saw him on TV-- and certainly not on the gossipy morning show he did on NBC. He is accused of sexually assaulting a female staffer in 2014 at the Sochi Winter Games. She complained to H.R. on Monday and he was fired on Tuesday night and by this morning it pushed Señor Trumpanzee's antics out of the top news story slots everywhere-- including on Lauer's own show. NBC News chairman Andy Lack made the decision himself. Lack: "While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over twenty years he’s been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident." Trumpanzee, of course tried to get in on the action:

So who's this morning's other Matt? Matt Dababneh is one of the most conservative, Republican-lite, fake Dems in the California Assembly. We've been writing about what an asshole he is for years. But we were writing about him for his right-wing votes and his corruption. Who knew he was a pervert to boot! The story I got from 4 other state legislators yesterday and today is that he followed a woman into a bathroom, locked the door and pulled out his dick and masturbated in front of her. Supposedly the L.A. Times is sitting on the story and several of the legislators suggested that if I write about it, the L.A. Times will be forced to and he'll resign-- another Climate Change denier flushed away.

Since 2014 he's been representing the 45th Assembly district, much of the western San Fernando Valley, so not far from where I live. It's a liberal area that doesn't need a conservative representing it. And this isn't the first report of Dababneh's inappropriate behavior with the ladies.

So would I have broken this story if he was a progressive? Nope. And that's the problem... this whole thing becoming a political weapon. I think child molester Roy Moore should withdraw from the race. I think serial sexual predator Donald J. Trumpanzee should resign. But liberal Democrat John Conyers? Sure... after Trump does. This is going to get like the Terror that destroyed the French Revolution's lofty goals. And the political weaponization of this is going to become a real problem for our society now. Just watch.

I still don't understand why no one has revisited the sexual molestation charges against Mitch McConnell for fondling a private's privates. Let's get on that. Who will be next, Garrison Keillor, formerly of Prairie Home Companion? As I've said before, men are pigs.

So you would have not broken the story if a progressive man followed a woman into a bathroom, locked the door and pulled out his dick and masturbated in front of her? Seems to me that’s what you just said.

And, yes, it is a problem. But the problem I see is what you said is that of putting political allegiances above that of female harassment, sexual or otherwise (e.g. bullying by powerful males). It’s been going on for far too long. And, I think that we are reaching some kind of a tipping point. I am a lefty woman. But I put being a woman above being a lefty. I am just sick and tired of it- having been sexually harassed and bullied myself. And over the years this took its toll on me.

I don’t care about the political stripe of any woman (be she far right or far left) who is calling out in a true way her experience with sexual harassment. And, I don’t care about the political stripe of the man being called out. Abuse of women has to stop. We comprise more than 50% of the US population. We still earn, on average, 70 cents on the dollar, compared with men.

John Conyers should resign. Now. Why make this conditional on Trump’s resignation? You are giving Conyers a pass here. Individual men need to suffer the consequences of their own abuses of women.

Sure, Trump needs to suffer the consequences of his abuse of women. And a lot more of his abuse- including abuse of minorities. He is an ugly man. But why excuse John Conyers because Trump has not yet resigned?

This is getting WAY out of hand.

Uh, rape, nudity and masturbating in front of someone are not anywhere on a par with a butt pinch, kiss or a hand on your back. I cannot imagine there is one woman in this country who has not experienced something like the latter. I have for sure, and honestly I don't even remember the details because although it was rude it was not traumatizing.

I think an incident requiring firing should be one that is traumatizing or part of a long history of such incidents. Investigation should take place before someone is fired. The men responsible for lesser behavior could have consequences involving mandated counseling as well as training for all staff. Embarrassment about the publicity of their behavior is another consequence that is meaningful. I worked in a school system and we did have such mandated workshops about this. They took place, however, within the last 10-15 years, not before that when many of the incidents now coming to light took place.

As far as Garrison Keillor, I would like to know what he actually did and what evidence there is that it actually occurred. It seems he was fired summarily.

Of course, Señor Trumpanzee is not being held accountable.

Wrong. Dead wrong. Conyers should resign. If he doesn't, he should be booted by the house D caucus. period.

It is exactly your kind of rationalization wrt conyers that has kept the democraps in power, sort of, for 35 years of total corruption. That's the basis for lesser evilism.

You're either worth a shit or you are not. He's not. And he's also a perv. You can be worthless but still "deserve" your seat in congress.
Conyers, for the harassment as well as for deeds (and deeds refused) over decades deserves to disappear.

Standard procedure. The GOP gets caught with its collective underwear down, and immediately starts dragging out the Democrats for the same sin. The Democrats, in their cultured determination to be "less evil," drop their accused like hot rocks; and the GOP just shovels more support to their perverts and gets them elected.

Wash, rinse, repeat.
