Dutch Neo-Nazi Geert Wilders Must Stand Trial

>

I lived in Holland for 4 years after graduating from college. Although I had a close friend, Willy Wouda, who was a die-hard monarchist, I didn't know, nor even ever met, any real right-wingers. Of course, I was in Amsterdam, then very much a working class town. And in the 70s Dutch people were still a little touchy about right-wingers, the Nazi atrocities still fresh in the collective consciousness. But as much time has elapsed since I was there as had elapsed from the time of the Nazi occupation and when I first arrived. And Holland's right wingers make no bones about their... tendencies.

The head of a neo-Nazi/GOP type political party, the Freedom Party (PVV), which defines "freedom" as something exclusionary... sort of how Bush used the term, got some bad news today. Geert Wilders, a vicious racist and member of parliament, sometimes called the "Tom Tancredo of the Lowlands," was told by the Dutch Court of Appeals that he must stand trial.

If you haven't seen the Muslim-bashing movie he made that's landed him in hot water, Fitna take a look:

As rightists are wont to do, Wilders projects his own psychosis onto his perceived enemies, in this case calling Muslims "fascists" and likening the Koran to Mein Kampf, the Bible for right wing loons the world over. So right now Wilders is reduced to pleading the case for freedom of expression and the Dutch courts are drawing a line in the sand about "hate speech." The judges say he went beyond the leeway granted to politicians and that his statements and writings have been an incitement to hatred and discrimination.

Trying to rally Dutch xenophobes, Wilders claims that the ruling jeopardizes everyone who opposes the "Islamization" of the country. "Participation in the public debate," he whines, "has become a dangerous activity. If you give your opinion, you risk being prosecuted... Who will stand up for our culture if I am silenced?"

Maybe we could send Heath Shuler over to continue his work. American fascists and xenophobes, of course, stand firmly with Wilders.

As a die-hard monarchist, your close friend, Willy Wouda, must oppose Geert Wilders. Wilders is not only against anything he considers islamist, but he is also against Queen Beatrix. Geert Wilders reacted angrily to the 2007Christmas Speech, given every year by Queen Beatrix. In her speech, the Head of State pleaded for tolerance, which Mr Wilders saw as an attack on his party.

Anybody who asks for tolerance is attacking Geert Wilders and his party. That sounds either paranoid - or one could that he opposes all kinds of tolerance.

Geert Wilders is no racist. He is simply against out-of-control immigration; and against immigrants who won't assimilate; and some who beat Gays and rape Dutch women for not being covered up.

Muslims are not a 'race', they are followers of a religion and its Sharia Law.

Most Muslims aren't even Arabs, which by the way, is also not a 'Race'.

Which their duty is, according to their Koran, to spread Sharia law over the whole Earth. It might take 100-200 years, if they succeed.

Is that the kind of world you want for your great-grand children's great-grand children? A Taliban Planet? I bet not.

Muslims are the biggest victims of Islam. Wilders is NOT against Muslims, he is against Islamic Fundamentalism.

You should read the Koran, but be careful, for the Koran prohibits non-Muslims from reading it.

I wonder why.

This is BIG, this is REAL BIG! SPREAD THE WORD to the world everyone! The EU Mandarins have crossed the line! If this goes to court, how much more of the public will become aware of this tyranny?

All real freedom starts with freedom of speech. If there is no freedom of speech, then there can be no real freedom.

The Christians and Jews don’t riot when somebody makes fun of Christ or Jews. People must learn to be civilized, and held to account when they are not. Muslims included.

Geert Wilders is a hero spreading the painful truth. He MUST be protected!

If free speech doesn't protect speech you find distateful, then what does it protect?

Pim was murdered, Van Gogh was murdered, Hirsi Ali was driven out and requires private protection, Wilders also requires protection. But they are the ones who were wrong? Really? They're the bad guys?

I am no neo-Nazi. If you look at my blogs, either fipher.blogspot.com or battleforheaven.blogspot.com
you will see that I am a Conservative Libertarian who strongly believes that all religious people should be able to exist not only in toleration of one another, but love each other as as One Family Under God.

However, my Libertarian side screams that no matter what he said - even if he said we aught to collect all muslums and turn them into candles, he should be allowed to say whatever he wants.

Maybe it's none of my business really since I am an American living in Norway, and have nothing to do with The Netherlands, but I don't want this sort of anti-free-speech stuff spreading to anywhere else in the world.

He is only stating his own awful opinion. If other horrible people take it an use it to justify horrible actions, than that's just horrible, but those people are the ones who chose to take such horrible actions.

If you start punishing people for the things that they say, how do you know when to stop?

Hi everybody. When I listened to Wilders to first time I was surprised how rational and cultivated he comes over. That, after reading time and again that he is a Nazi. I have my doubts in the meantime. I'm sure that some of his positions appeal to the right-wing but more than a right-winger Mr. Wilders seems to be a free-thinker. The next I will do is going to verify if there is any statement at all that reflects in the least some kind of nazi mentality - so far to no avail but if you can show, quote or indicate some sources that prove it I will appreciate it.

I repect freedom of speech and democracy on all levels, however racism and discrimination is different. This guy is a Nazi. And I'm pretty sure that pro-nazi statements are not concidered OK because laws protect freedom of speech. Take Germany for example. You can't say there's no freedom of speech. But speak of nationalsocialism and you're fucked. At least you used to be. Sarazin is like Wilders and not much has happened to him. I think Europeans started to forget the Nazi times. Holywood Jews must start making new anti-Nazi movies immediately. New generations don't know shit about this. If you're dutch and like Wilders who I think is a Nazi, watch the movie called Zwartboek, maybe you remember some stuff.
