New & Noteworthy-- If Not News And Newsworthy

Ken is out this week, getting some new bits and pieces installed, so his nightly slot will be devoted to... what else?... bits and pieces.
Who Will Protect Us From The Boehner-Obama Plan To Wreck Social Security?
Wondering who signed the Grayson Takano No Cuts letter, the one that says "We will vote against any and every cut to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security benefits-- including raising the retirement age or cutting the cost of living adjustments that our constituents earned and need?" As of today, here's a list of signers:
What are we going to do with all these GOP closet cases? The newest headliner is Republican James “Jay” Schiliro, the Mayor of Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, a borough of Delaware County. He was arrested for kidnapping a 20 year old male, plying him with booze and repeatedly trying to perform fellatio on him. (Have you ever noticed that Republicans, when they get drunk enough, always want to blow other men. I can only imagine what GOP Hell is like!) Schiliro, whose daughter was upstairs sleeping while this was all going on, is out of jail but has decided not to seek reelection. Like all Republican closet cases, he blames his problems on alcohol.
The GOP has sent some real garbage to Congress but nothing on the level of East Texas' neo-Nazi Steve Stockman. Dana Milbank dismissed him as a former street vagrant who somehow got swept to power in the Republican Revolution of '94. But that's not the worst of it. No one wants to talk about the worst of it. Too horrible. In his quest to fulfill the Helen Chenoweth role as militia poster girl for the '90s, immediately after beginning his single term in Congress, Stockman started spouting paranoid anti-government slogans-- that some would define as treason and incitement. Another homeless, abused miscreant who turned to drug addiction, like Nugent, Michigan-born Stockman moved to Texas and fell prey to a religionist sect of unhinged snakeoil salesmen. He felt that qualified to help run the country and he started running for Congress in 1990. He won in 1994 and represented parts of Houston as well as Galveston, Chambers and Jefferson counties. Although he worked hard to develop a reputation as the militia's man in Congress, he wound up taking it a bit too far and got involved with the terrorists who blew up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Another Michigan-Texas Republican dupe, a GOP chairwoman of Orange County, Texas, faxed him before they blew up the building and the FBI investigated Stockman's role and his relationship to domestic terrorists. He was defeated for reelection and they seem to have let the complicated and heavily disputed matter slide. This week he announced his reelection campaign slogan-- on twitter-- and started selling bumperstickers:
So, if the babies in the OK City Federal Building kindergarten that the right-wing terrorists blew up had had guns, would it have protected them from Timothy McVeigh, Terry Nichols, Michael Fortier and Steve Stockman?
And One Last Thing

Schiliro, 38, of the 1000 block of Green Street, surrendered a week ago today on charges of official oppression, recklessly endangering another person, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment and providing alcohol to a minor, all misdemeanor offenses. He is free on $50,000 unsecured bail, with conditions prohibiting firearms possession and contact with the young Trainer man.Domestic Terrorist Steve Stockman Is Running For Reelection
A preliminary hearing is pending assignment of a new court, due to a conflict of interest with Magisterial District Judge David Griffin in Linwood.
Authorities allege that late on the evening of Feb. 21, Schiliro contacted the young man by text message and had a Marcus Hook police officer deliver him to his borough home. There, with Schiliro’s 13-year-old daughter sleeping upstairs, the mayor allegedly gave the young man alcohol and produced three firearms, one of which was fired into papers inside the house.
During the encounter, the mayor repeatedly asked the young man if he could give him oral sex, according to court documents. Schiliro is not charged with any sex-related offenses.
District Attorney Jack Whelan said Schiliro’s conduct was one of “intimidation, oppression and coercion” against the young man during the four-hour encounter that continued into Feb. 22.
